Just Another Year?
By: Dr. David Fincher, President
I missed you this summer! The bright eyes and smiling faces on campus—both your kids and you—always lift me. Probably forty staff and I remain at GAC during the summer, getting ready for your return while fifty more faculty spend the summer in graduate studies or professional workshops, upgrading GAC programs and their skills.
And the reason we stay? And the reason for so many professional upgrades?
It’s for our GAC children and for you. Greater Atlanta Christian makes it a high priority to improve and expand its outlook without interruption. For the GAC family, there is no such thing as “school as usual”. The focus instead is “What’s next? How can we improve again for GAC children?”

GAC Construction, Roads and Landscape
By: Dr. David Fincher, President
All summer long the sound of heavy machinery and evidence of newly stirred dirt has confirmed that GAC is once again improving and upgrading the campus. The 12,900 sq. ft. Naik Athletic Training Center reaches completion; additional parking spaces are added behind Liles Media Center and expansion of Pipeline Road as a primary campus thoroughfare all takes shape. Because of planning and permit work underway, excavation and initial construction of The Forum may be delayed until a few weeks after school has begun.

Annual School Theme...Legacy
By: Jill Morris, Community Relations Director
This year’s theme is Legacy…Learn it, Live it, Leave it. Students will hear this theme over and over throughout the school year in chapel, the classroom, read it on bulletin boards and, hopefully, see it lived out on campus as well as at home. Thank you for your confidence in GAC and in your commitment to Christian education.
As Dr. Fincher stated when he quoted Pericles: "What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others."

First Day of Chapel Shared with Area Youth Ministers
By: Jill Morris, Community Relations Director
New friendships were formed as GAC chaplains Terry Davis and Jordan House invited youth ministers from area churches to join us on the first day of Junior High and Senior High chapels. During the spring semester, students were asked to fill out cards with names of their church youth ministers. Those ministers were then sent an invitation to the first chapel service. “Church youth ministers and chaplains can be even more effective in these students’ lives when we partner together,” said Terry Davis.

American Heroes In Our Midst
By: Jill Morris, Community Relations Director
There are only 108 living U.S. Medal of Honor recipients. Only four Medal of Honors have been given since the Vietnam War and that was given posthumously. Therefore, it was a great honor to have Sergeant Major Jon R. Cavaiani in our chapel on August 16 as a Medal of Honor recipient. Accompanying Sgt. Cavaiani was 4-Star General Bryan Douglas Brown, Commander, Headquarters U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. General Brown addressed GAC Junior High and Senior High students sharing "The way we win the war in Iraq is by building bridges…Learn a foreign language.” He continued “Our guys are the best when they need to be lethal, but bridging gaps through communication is the key to winning the war.”

GAC Enrollment and Retention Remain High
By: Bill Burton, Administrative Vice President and Linda Clovis, Director of Admissions
As we look forward to another great year at GAC, our statistics indicate positive numbers again. GAC continues to be blessed with strong enrollment and a high rate of retention as we begin our 40th year. Our current goal is not numerical growth in the student body, but rather growth in quality of our programs and facilities. A testimony to this quality is that we have students coming to us this year from 12 counties and 65 zip codes in the metro Atlanta region.

Praise to God
By: Misty Overman, Junior High Principal
Praise to God, the Junior High has experienced an unprecedented smooth beginning this year. Thank you to students, parents, and teachers for their flexibility and patience as we worked out the few bugs this week. Scheduling certainly benefited from the summer attention as we have changed very few schedules this week. Even the ever fearful carpool has gone smoothly these first few days.

Children Need Success
By: Norma Miller, Elementary Principal
Our focus this year is to maximize each child's success. Over the last decade our faculty has embraced and seriously applied two bodies of research. The first began in the early '90's when we began to better understand how the brain learns. Teachers have joined the excitement, using curriculum and teaching strategies that reflect a great deal of this excellent research. Over time we have become a brain-based learning school.
